Training System Gunnery Simulator Artillery BT-33

The "Training System Gunnery Simulator Artillery Engagement Trainer 33" (AusbAnl Schieß-Sim Art BT33) is a simulation-based training system for artillery operational scenarios. It serves basic training in the observation and control of indirect fire.

Backup Mode 2 is one of three operating modes of the Joint Fire Support Teams (JFST) that is used in remote or dismounted operations as well as in the event of equipment component failures. In this situation, the observer has no aids available other than a map, compass, binoculars and radio.

In Backup Mode 2, target coordinates are determined and fire engagement is conducted by applying a correction method based on a reference line. Possible correction methods include the strip bracketing method, the firing direction method and the free reference line method. The knowledge and skills taught in training can be practiced and consolidated in the AusbAnl Schieß-Sim BT33 in a mission-oriented, resource-efficient and cost-effective manner.

Production Unit 1 (SG1) of the AusbAnl Schieß-Sim Art BT33 is located at the Bundeswehr site in Idar-Oberstein. This system was modernized as the first component of the BT33 system regeneration project cycle. The renewal of a further 29 production units  at various locations is being carried out within the framework of additional option contracts. The systems are being upgraded to the current technological standard with modern computer hardware, the new Windows 11 operating system and the latest VBS4 simulation environment. An extension with an XR visual function using goggles, also based on VBS4, is a central component of the project.
