The Training Device Combat Simulator Light Reconnaissance Patrol (AGLS) is an innovative training system used for training within the German Army reconnaissance forces (HAufklTr). Developed and implemented by e.sigma, this state-of-the-art system provides a realistic operational environment for training the crew of the FENNEK reconnaissance vehicle. The system is used for training in a realistic operational environment that can be virtually represented, navigated and interacted with in real time. This prepares soldiers specifically for reconnaissance tasks in any operational scenario.

By 2019, five production units had been procured. After seven years of successful operation, four of these systems were comprehensively refurbished to meet evolving user requirements through extended functionality and to maintain the systems at the latest technical standard.

The simulator consists of three interconnected mobile containers. The training facilities for a complete FENNEK crew are housed in one container. Training takes place specifically in the combat compartment (KaRa), a precise vehicle replica, as well as in a virtual, dismounted environment. The control center is represented by the command, control and observation system (LAKS) and is located in the third container.

The advanced simulation system supports dynamic terrain models such as craters and track marks, urban terrain as well as dynamic objects, including accessible buildings or damage models. It enables realistic vegetation and weather control, supports multi-user capability and provides intelligent scenario control. Particularly noteworthy is the level of detail in operation, functionality and haptics of the applications in the replicated KaRa (cockpits), which correspond to more than 95% of the original equipment.

The five AGLS systems are supplemented by a database generation unit that enables the user to create terrain data as well as static and dynamic objects. This allows extensive databases to be created and used directly in the AGLS.

Since commissioning, e.sigma has been responsible for the complete maintenance and further development of the AGLS. In addition to technical maintenance and troubleshooting, we are also commissioned with software maintenance and required functional adaptations as well as technical investigations. e.sigma thus achieves a very long service life and functional reliability with the AGLS as well as reliable availability for training.
